Pingdom is one of the world’s fastest growing uptime and monitoring companies, measured by number of customers. In our ongoing effort to make the web faster and more reliable, we work proactively to improve our operations.
One such improvement is to register and become a LIR or Local Internet Registry, something pretty special. In fact, there are only 469 Local Internet Registries offering service in Sweden, where we at Pingdom operate from.
Let us explain what this means and how it will help us provide an even better service to our customers.

In our never ending quest to provide you with the best uptime and performance monitoring service, we now present you with our brand new app for the Google Chrome web browser.
It is, of course, completely free!
With the app installed in your Chrome browser, you get easy access to your Pingdom account from Chrome’s Apps page. Chrome accounted for just over 40% of the traffic to Pingdom.com over the last 30 days, so we hope you will find this interesting and useful.

New office,
Pingdom on January 20th, 2012 by pingdom
The work on getting our brand new office ready continues at breakneck speed. We shared with you the progress back in November and now it’s time for an update.
We’ve been visiting the office on a weekly basis to keep an eye on what’s happening. Since the last time, the main development is that there is now carpet in most of the office as well as the dropped ceiling is in place. Basically, it’s all coming together.
What we’re probably most proud of, however, are the handles for the bathrooms. They stay lit in green until someone occupies the bathroom; then green turns to red. How clever is that?
Read on to find out what other cool stuff the new Pingdom office offers.

Yesterday we introduced you to Svante, our new System Administrator, and today it’s Fredrik Berglund’s turn. Would you believe it, Fredrik also comes from Eskilstuna, just like Svante, and Fredrik also got started with programming on a PC with Intel 286 processor. They even went to the same university!
But let’s turn our attention back to Fredrik, for a moment.
That 286 PC, which his dad dragged home, really got Fredrik working hard on his programming skills, getting to grips with assembly language and even hexadecimal code. His interest in computers then took him to studies in computational science at Mälardalens University.

This week, the Pingdom team, is getting reinforcement in the form of Svante Boberg who joins us as System Administrator.
At Pingdom, Svante will work with a wide range of tasks, including maintenance of infrastructure, upgrades, and more. To put it in another way, he will make sure it all runs.
Svante hails from Eskilstuna, which is right next door to the Pingdom HQ in Västerås, Sweden. He started using computers at a very early age, and began programming in QBasic on his first computer, which was an Intel 286-based PC.

As you’re probably aware, Pingdom has been growing a lot over the past couple of years, and as more and more users have joined our service, our infrastructure has grown as well. Our monitoring network now consists of 40 locations that test your sites and servers.
Starting this week, we’re going to change how these monitoring locations monitor your sites. It’s not something most of you will notice, monitoring will be as reliable as ever, but we thought it was worth a blog post explaining what we’re doing and why to avoid any potential confusion.

As you may know, we’re working on a brand new control panel for Pingdom. We’re calling it My Pingdom, and we’ve been gradually rolling out parts of it to our users so they can play around with it and tell us what they think.
We’ve just updated My Pingdom again, adding access to a few more sections. Previously, only the “reports” section was available. Now you can also manage checks and contacts, and we’ve added a new “probe server” overview so you can see a full list of all our servers and their status.
We’ve also made some general tweaks based on your feedback, improved the way filters work in reports, and ironed out a few bugs we found in the old beta version.

Pingdom is located in Västerås, Sweden, and the third Geek Meet in Västerås was held last night at Hypernode. Geek Meet is a great opportunity for us to meet other people working in the web, Internet and technology industries.
The room at Hypernode filled up rather quickly and a captivated audience listened to a couple of interesting presentations about scaling web applications and writing friendly JavaScript code.

Late last week Pingdom passed a couple of milestones and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you.
First, we passed 30,000 followers on Twitter, which for us is really amazing. Twitter has become an incredibly powerful tool for us to talk to our customers, distribute information, and do some tech support with as well.
Second, we passed 9,000 likes on Facebook, something we’re equally proud of. Facebook is also very powerful, although we’re sort of feeling our way in terms of what to use Twitter for and what to use Facebook for. Not all users are on both social media networks, for example, and not all types of issues are best dealt with in both places.
On both Twitter and Facebook we talk to many of you on a daily basis and we look forward to continue to do so. Via this blog, the Royal Pingdom blog and our social media we try to keep in close contact with our community
